Conflict Management for Schools and Colleges

Schools and Colleges frequently experience conflict.  This arises from students, parents/guardians and staff.  Learning new ways to understand conflict and to use communication tools to resolve tension and problem solve is at the heart of our approach.  Our experience is that the source of conflict varies from school to school.  As with every training programme we design a bespoke programme to focus on the specific issues relevant to your organisation.

We will provide a variety of learning resources, some familiar, some less so.  We find the use of theatre highly effective to reinforce traditional learning.  It introduces scenarios and the opportunity for your colleagues to engage, identifying the communication tools to reinforce the professional knowledge they have to blend new solutions to challenging situations.

Conflict Management and Personal Safety Qualification

Level 2 Award in Conflict Management and Personal Safety (QCF)

The aim of the qualification is to provide learners with the knowledge required to manage conflict in the workplace as part of their role and be able to manage their own personal safety.  This qualification is aimed at anyone who is required to deal with conflict as part of their role in addition to managing their own personal safety e.g. lone workers.

The qualification is designed for a variety of sectors and roles which require employees and volunteers to manage potential conflict and their own personal safety as part of their role e.g. dealing with members of the public and fellow colleagues.

Conflict Management / De-Escalation Training

Our Conflict Management training is designed for anyone who has to communicate effectively, be that with members of the public in situations where people may not act in a normal or expected way or with colleagues where challenging circumstances can arise.

It is not personal safety training, so please do not expect any throws, holds or ninja style moves.  This is in depth training that enables people to communicate effectively and to recognise and respond appropriately to danger signals etc.

The aim of the training is ‘to equip those attending the training to respond appropriately in confrontational or potentially confrontational situations.’

Delegates will learn about the common causes of conflict, they will learn about different types and styles of communication. They will learn about how to recognise and differentiate between ‘warning’ and ‘danger’ signs; they will also learn about ‘impact factors’. They will then learn how they can use this knowledge to keep themselves and others as safe as possible.

Delegates will be able to give examples of how communication might break down, they will also be able to describe strategies on how to minimise the risk of this happening and how to mitigate it if it does.  Delegates will then be given an opportunity to practice their new found skills in a safe learning environment in scenarios based on your particular needs.

The training is designed around a framework of 6 hours contact time. This can be tailored to your needs, for example, we have delivered it across three lots of 2 hour evening events over three weeks in the past. Our flexible approach to bespoke course design and pricing means that we can extend this programme for your specific needs.

Our flexible approach is focused on the principle of making training bespoke to the varying needs of each organisation we support. This allows redesigning knowledge elements to deliver them as a distance learning package at the VLE, our Virtual Learning Environment.  Tell us your needs and we will provide a solution.
